queering the tarot: collaging the emperex

The tarot should be as genderqueer as you are. Create your own “Emperex” collage art that reflects you and draws on the archetypes of the Emperor and Empress. We will talk about the traditional meanings of cards three and four in the Major Arcana and then deconstruct them. Participants will see example illustrations from a variety of decks that highlight queer depictions of these two archetypes.

About your facilitators

Sarah Beth Alcabes (she/they) is a White, Jewish, genderqueer woman. She has lived in DC for over a decade and can often be found biking or lounging in rock creek park, foraging for collage materials, or hanging out with their partners and cats. Sarah Beth has been a student of tarot for several years and has a special affinity for the nine of pentacles.

Sarah Stern (she/her) is a collage artist who has been reading and studying tarot since 2017. She approaches both collage and tarot as supportive and intuitive practices that allow her to connect with the present moment.
