WORKSHOP
art to exhale
Art to Exhale is a process-focused watercolor workshop designed to help you slow down, get out of your head, and reconnect with your senses through paint, movement, breath, and observation.
Guided by artist and watercolor practitioner Abby Kiesa, you’ll learn the basics of working with watercolor while exploring a series of simple, meditative exercises.
Throughout the workshop, Abby will invite you to pay attention to your body: Are your shoulders creeping toward your ears? Are you holding tension in your jaw or hands? What happens when you soften your grip, slow your breath, and simply observe?
During the workshop, you’ll explore:
Basic watercolor techniques and materials
Breath and movement as tools for creative practice
Mark-making and observing how water and pigment move
Repetitive shapes as a form of meditation
Using your senses to become more present
Making art in response to music
Simple exercises you can take home and return to whenever you need to slow down
All watercolor materials will be provided. Come as you are, whether you’re completely new to watercolor or already have a relationship with the medium.
Price: $38 (Due to limited capacity, event tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.)
About your facilitator
In a region defined by non-stop networking, by partisan competition, and by the question “what do you do?”, Abby Kiesa (she/her) brings a connection to natural places and moments for letting go. While a lot of queer art is justifiably provocative, Abby brings breath and spaciousness to watercolors, to queer art, and to communities.
