GATHERING
catharsis: a guided breathwork journey
No previous breathwork experience is necessary.
Lie down. Breathe. Let go.
Catharsis is a guided breathwork journey held with the intention of making space for whatever within you is ready to be felt, expressed, or released.
The word catharsis comes from the Greek word for cleansing. In modern psychotherapy and psychedelic journeying, it's analogous to “release.” When we create space for our full selves—including emotions, sensations, memories, truth, grief, joy, anger, and longing—what has felt stuck may begin to move. We may reconnect with our vitality, restore a sense of balance, and hear more clearly what is asking for our attention.
This is not about forcing an emotional breakthrough or trying to make something happen. Your experience may be powerful, quiet, emotional, physical, visionary, peaceful, or difficult to describe. All of these experiences are welcome.
what is active breathwork?
During the central portion of the evening, Elizabeth will guide you through a simple pattern of conscious, connected breathing through the mouth.
The practice invites you to shift out of your usual thinking mind and into a more direct experience of your body. As the breath builds, you may notice physical sensations, emotional movement, spontaneous imagery, memories, changes in perception, or a deep sense of presence.
Some people cry. Some laugh. Some feel energized, tender, peaceful, or surprised. Some experience cramping or contraction in the extremities or tingling in the face. Others have a subtle experience and simply feel more connected to themselves.
There is no correct way to experience breathwork. You will be encouraged to remain curious, listen to your body, and adjust or return to natural breathing whenever you need to.
a space for beginners
You do not need to know how to meditate, breathe “correctly,” or access an altered state.
Before we begin, Elizabeth will demonstrate the breathing pattern, explain what you may experience, answer questions, and offer ways to modify the practice. You are always welcome to slow down, rest, change positions, or stop the active breathing altogether.
You remain in choice throughout the entire journey.
This offering is limited to 10 participants to support an intimate, attentive, and grounded environment.
