WORKSHOP
the cacophony of delight
Most of us would agree that DC has felt pretty bleak lately. But whether you’re doing pretty great yourself or not, it’s hard to imagine that we couldn’t all benefit from cultivating a little more delight.
Join us for The Cacophony of Delight—-one night of reflective, creative writing prompts offered in an immersive, community experience that will help you cultivate a practice of delight and leave you feeling more alive.
Spend the evening noticing the delights that make life a little easier: like that ripple of coolness across your skin when you first dive into the pool. Or the passionfruit curd inside a yeasted doughnut. Or watching your nephew cuddle into the arm of the couch.
Whether you love to write and have a regular creative practice, or you’ve barely written a thing since high school but keep wishing you at least journaled more…this workshop is for anyone that’s interested in using creative writing to get closer to themselves or simply just play a little!
Over this two-hour workshop, you will be guided through low-stakes, generative writing prompts that will help you notice that which brings you toward delight, large and small.
Then, you’ll be invited to share small parts of what you wrote within the larger group—creating a sort of cacophony of delight, as we all bring our voices into the room and let delight be amplified within the chorus that is our multifaceted community. (Don’t worry, there will not be singing, but it will be joyous…)
A note on the workshop
By signing up for this workshop, you are entering into a community-oriented space where expression is encouraged for the sake of playfulness and connection rather than performance or perfection. You will be encouraged to share words, phrases, or maybe even small excerpts from the writing you generate in class in a super low-stakes way. You will have full permission to opt out if that feels better in the moment, but we hope you’ll arrive with some openness to sharing!
This workshop emphasizes self-expression and the sharing of delight, not writing craft. Your writing will not receive any feedback or criticism, and workshop participants will be asked to refrain from offering such feedback to one another.
Please come with an open and non-judgmental attitude toward yourself and others.
Finally, while this workshop is led by a therapist, this is a creative writing workshop and in no way is it considered therapy, nor does it offer official mental health advice.
Price: $35 (Due to limited capacity, event tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.)
