Give old pieces new life. Upcycling Night is a monthly evening at Living Room centered on repurposing, repairing, embellishing, and transforming clothing, textiles, accessories, and other items, with support from local upcycling artists and creative entrepreneurs.
This is not a traditional step-by-step workshop. Instead, guests are invited to explore freely, experiment creatively, and receive informal
guidance throughout the evening from a rotating group of creative guides specializing in different upcycling techniques and materials.
Bring a piece you’ve been wanting to reinvent — whether it’s a denim jacket, pair of jeans, tote bag, T-shirt, accessory, or fabric item — and spend the evening creating in community.
No prior experience is necessary. Beginners are welcome.

Whether you come with a full vision or no idea where to start, Upcycle Night is designed to make creativity feel approachable, collaborative, and low-pressure.
Price: $15; Included in your ticket: Living Room will provide a shared selection of basic materials and supplies, while participating artists may also offer specialty tools, techniques, and inspiration throughout the night.

About your hosts
Sophie Kanter (@alittlechickadee) is a textile artist from the DC area. Her craft is primarily focused on upcycling and reuse, working with embroidery and natural dyes to give clothing and other items a new life. Learning embroidery at age 8 set her off on a lifelong love for textiles, stitching and making things beautiful. Her work reflects the natural world around her with foraged dye materials as well as embroidery patterns that are inspired by the environment. When not stitching, she enjoys walks in Rock Creek Park, taking care of her nephew and her many house plants.
Megan King is the artist/owner of Pathwork Studio, a creative reuse studio that transforms discarded textiles into one-of-a-kind clothing and accessories. She believes reinvention is a powerful tool. By learning to reuse, mend, and reimagine what already exists, we can create a more sustainable—and far more interesting—approach to fashion. Megan is an active member of the DC creative community, serving as a designer and volunteer for the reFashion Show and as a DC Maker's Guild board member.
Carolyn Becker of @Petite_Punk is a DMV-based thrift expert, community cultivator, and creative explorer.
Ashley Kurth-Reinhart (@palomavintagedesigns) is an artist, musician, educator, and professional treasure hunter obsessed with transformation. Through Paloma Vintage Designs and the ReFashion Show, she turns forgotten jewelry, discarded materials, and fashion waste into bold wearable art with a story to tell. Whether teaching workshops or building community events, her work is rooted in the belief that old things — and sometimes people too — deserve a second chance to become something extraordinary.
