In celebration of Latine Heritage Month, join Tintas DC for an evening of poetry, storytelling, music, and community, celebrating the voices and stories that shape us.
Our roots are more than where we come from: they live in our languages, our families, our memories, our neighborhoods, our resistance, and the stories we carry with us. RAÍCES brings together writers, artists, storytellers, and community members to share work that reflects the many ways we understand home, identity, culture, and belonging.
Come share something at the mic or simply pull up a chair, listen, and celebrate our stories together. All are welcome.
Featured Poet: Dahlia Aguilar
We’re excited to welcome Dahlia Aguilar as our featured poet for the evening. A Texas-born Chicana poet and longtime Washington, D.C. resident, Dahlia is a 2025 DC Arts and Humanities Fellow, a Macondista, and has held residencies with Under the Volcano and Elk River.
Her poetry explores power, memory, migration, girlhood, and survival, shaped by Indigenous, linguistic, and environmental perspectives. Her work has appeared in Naugatuck River Review, Acentos Review, The Skinny Poetry Journal, and Journal X, as well as the anthologies Boundless, If the Trees Were Pens, and the award-winning Somos Xicanas.
This fall, Finishing Line Press releases Dahlia’s debut poetry collection, La Otra Cara, as part of its New Women’s Voices series. Dahlia lives in D.C.’s Deanwood neighborhood, where she continues to write, contribute to the literary community, and raise her teenage son.

About your host
Adrian Gaston Garcia (aka AGG) is a queer Latine storyteller, poet, and cultural organizer whose work celebrates community, softness, survival, and joy as resistance. Originally from Chicago and rooted in Washington, D.C., his work has appeared at Arena Stage, Busboys and Poets, World Poetry Festival, DC Pride Poems, and more. His writing has been published in Latino Book Review, Split This Rock, and A Gathering of the Tribes. Crowned Mr. DC Latinx Pride 2026, Adrian is the founder of Tintas DC, a writers community centering Latine voices across the DMV.
